Waterford Fishing

As a coastal county with the great rivers Blackwater and Suir as well as many others, fishing played a huge role in the history and memories of people in Waterford. Sadly fisherman have given their lives in an effort to work for their livelihood and their sacrifice is held in the memories of the people left behind. Fishing is an important part of the economy but also a long practiced and popular past time. There are many stories to explore when fishing in Waterford. Perhaps you might even get some information on the secret spots to find the fish biting.

Oral History of the Commercial History in the South East

Set up in association with Duncannon Village Renewal Group with interviews carried out by Adrian Roche of the History Trail.  The project was set up to preserve the memories of people involved in commercial fishing in the south east; river fishing and the old traditions of cockle-picking in the Waterford area and has very kindly been shared by the Group to Diverse Waterford.
